India is preparing for a big change in public transportation. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that cable buses will soon start running in Indian cities. What Are Cable Buses?
Cable buses are like large cable cars that move above the ground using strong wires. They are different from regular buses that move on roads. These buses will be battery-powered, silent, and have zero carbon emissions. They will run on fixed routes with stations where people can board or exit easily.
According to Gadkari, these buses will not only reduce pollution but also improve traffic conditions. Since they travel above roads, they won’t be affected by road traffic. This is especially useful in cities where space is limited and road congestion is common.

Progress So Far
The Indian government has already approved more than 60 cable bus and ropeway projects across the country. They have also received 360 proposals from various states and cities for similar systems.
Additionally, countries like the US, Japan, and Europe have sent 13 technology proposals to help in the development of this system in India. Companies like Hitachi and Siemens are expected to be involved in building these buses.
Pilot Project in Delhi
As per Nitin Gadkari, the first cable bus system is planned to be launched in Delhi. Research and development work for the same has already begun. If successful, it will be expanded to other cities where metro rail or traditional transport is not enough to handle growing traffic.
