BMW launches CE 04 premium electric scooter in India

BMW Motorrad India has launched its first electric scooter, the CE 04, in the country. This is BMW’s first high-end electric two-wheeler in India. The price of the scooter is ₹14.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive electric scooter in the Indian market.

Modern design and features

The BMW CE 04 has a futuristic look with flat body panels, sharp lines, and a unique floating-style seat. It has LED headlamps, taillights, and indicators. The scooter includes a side-opening storage box to keep a helmet or small items.

It runs on large 15-inch wheels which help in offering better comfort and control on Indian roads. The design also keeps the scooter stable and easy to ride, especially in the city.

The CE 04 is available in two colour options — Light White and Imperial Blue Metallic. The blue version comes with stylish orange highlights and a smoked windshield for a sporty feel.

Power and battery performance

The scooter is powered by a 31 kW (42 hp) electric motor that gives quick power. It can go from 0 to 50 km/h in just 2.6 seconds. The top speed of the CE 04 is limited to 120 km/h.

It has an 8.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers a claimed range of up to 130 km on a single charge. A standard 2.3 kW charger can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in around 3.5 hours. BMW also offers an optional 6.9 kW fast charger which can fully charge the scooter in about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Technology and riding modes

The scooter features a large 10.25-inch full-color TFT display. It shows speed, battery, range, and navigation. Riders can connect their phone using Bluetooth for calls and media. There’s also a USB-C port for charging mobile devices.

BMW offers three ride modes — Eco, Rain, and Road. These modes adjust the scooter’s performance based on road and weather conditions. It also includes traction control, reverse gear, and keyless ride.

For safety, it comes with dual front disc brakes, rear disc brake, ABS, and dynamic stability control. These features help during sudden braking or when riding on wet roads.

Additional options and features

Buyers can add more features like heated grips, comfort seat, adaptive headlight, and tyre pressure monitoring. BMW also offers optional accessories such as a luggage carrier, anti-theft system, and a taller windshield.

Bookings and delivery

Bookings for the BMW CE 04 are now open across India. The deliveries are expected to begin in September 2024 in selected cities. BMW will sell the scooter through its premium dealership network.

User response

Many users online have shared that the CE 04 is very easy to ride and fun in traffic. It offers fast pickup and smooth handling. However, some feel the price is too high for a scooter. The real-world range may vary between 80 to 130 km depending on the riding mode and traffic conditions.
