Karnataka Cricket Body Blames Government, RCB — “We Don’t Deal With Fans”

KSCA Defends Itself After Fan Uproar at Chinnaswamy Stadium

In a bold and rather surprising statement, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has made it clear that they are not responsible for managing fans during high-profile matches at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The cricket body has shifted the blame squarely onto the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Karnataka Government, following widespread outrage from fans about chaotic ticketing, mismanagement, and lack of facilities during IPL 2024 matches.

“RCB Organizes the Matchday. We Only Provide the Venue,” Says KSCA

According to a statement issued by the KSCA on Wednesday, the cricket body emphasized that their role is limited to maintaining the venue and they have no control over fan interaction or matchday logistics. The statement read:

“The KSCA does not deal with spectators directly. Matchday operations including ticketing and crowd management are under the purview of the franchise and relevant government departments.”

This response came after thousands of angry fans took to social media platforms and staged mini-protests outside the stadium, accusing the authorities of negligence during one of RCB’s final matches of the season.

Fans Furious Over Ticket Black Marketing, Entry Denial

Fans who had booked tickets days in advance complained about being denied entry. Others alleged black marketing of tickets and a lack of basic amenities such as water, clean toilets, and shade in waiting areas.

“I traveled all the way from Hubli just to see the match. Despite having a ticket, they said it was fake. Who’s responsible for this?” said 23-year-old Prashant M, one of many who felt cheated.

RCB and Government Yet to Issue Clarification

While the KSCA has distanced itself from the mess, neither RCB nor the Karnataka Government has issued an official response till the time of writing. This silence has only fueled public anger, with hashtags like #RCBChaos and #KSCAAccountable trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Former cricketers and public figures have also stepped in. Renowned Karnataka player and commentator Dodda Ganesh tweeted:

“It’s shameful to see loyal fans treated this way. Someone has to take responsibility.”

Political Heat Rising Over the Issue

The issue has taken a political turn as well. Opposition leaders have demanded accountability from the state sports ministry, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the mismanagement. A public petition demanding an investigation has already garnered over 25,000 signatures.

What’s Next for KSCA, RCB, and the Fans?

With the IPL season drawing to a close, questions remain unanswered. Who will be held accountable for the mistreatment of fans? Will RCB and the Karnataka Government respond? And will the KSCA’s distancing act be enough to calm the storm?

Fans, after all, are the heartbeat of cricket — and this controversy proves that ignoring them can lead to massive backlash.
